Facelift Under 40 Years Old? | Best Age for Facelift FAQs Answered
Are you in your 20s and 30s and unsure whether you’re ‘old enough’ to have a facelift? Many people assume that facelifts are only for people in their 40s and 50s or older.

Are you in your 20s and 30s and unsure whether you’re ‘old enough’ to have a facelift? Many people assume that facelifts are only for people in their 40s and 50s or older.

The truth is: there’s no ‘best’ age for facelift.

In this blog, we’re answering a few of our most common FAQs from people considering facelifts at a younger age.

I’M UNDER 40, IS A FACELIFT RIGHT FOR ME?

It’s true that the average age for facelift is when patients are in their 40s, 50s and 60s. However, if you’re a consenting adult and your aesthetic goals can be achieved by safely lifting the skin, there’s no such thing as too young. In recent years, Dr. Zelken has performed facelift surgeries on a number of patients in their 30s, as well as a smaller subset in their 20s.

In many cases, there are other options for younger patients to explore before considering a facelift. This includes being realistic and educated about the risks and consequences of surgery and choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon who can recommend the best options for you.

WHAT IS A TELLTALE SIGN OF A FACELIFT IN A YOUNGER PERSON?

While the younger population typically have less bruising and a shorter downtime after surgery, scarring can be something to keep in mind. More youthful skin tends to want to heal a lot more and a lot quicker, which surgeons must keep in mind when performing facelifts on people in their 20s and 30s.

HOW DOES DR. ZELKEN MAKE FACELIFT SCARS LESS NOTICEABLE?

Through his experience as a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Zelken is able to undertake a number of actions to make facelift scars less noticeable, including:

  • Sharing the load on the skin by conducting deep plane or SMAS facelifts.
  • Not pulling the skin too tight.
  • Hiding scars in the hairline.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MY FACELIFT SCARS HEAL WELL?

After your facelift surgery, Dr. Zelken’s top recommendation for optimal scar healing is to take it easy for the first month. Don’t wear makeup prematurely or undertake high-intensity or excessive exercise too soon – these all cause stress to the face, which can slow or impact the healing of scars.
