Often times, plastic surgeons (ourselves included) showcase bits and pieces of wide-awake surgery procedures to woo prospective patients to our practices. But it is very easy to manipulate videos to pick and choose portions of the case that seemed to be well-tolerated or go smoothly. Moving forward, my film production team and I will experiment with more and more uncut, undirected, and “raw” footage to really allow perspective patient’s and YouTube reviewers to appreciate the mine space of the patient who is undergoing a wide-awake procedure.
All too often, patients who have undergone wide-awake surgery at my practice will tell me that they were very nervous based on watching YouTube videos because it looks so “gnarley”. But it wasn’t that bad… at all! It is easy for me to reassure patients prior to surgery that they will be comfortable for the case, because very often, they are. I work very hard to ensure a positive experience for my patients. Not only does a positive and comfortable experience benefit my patients, but it benefits me because word-of-mouth referrals are huge part of my practice.
A full buccal fat removal and FaceTite procedure can take up to 2-1/2 hours. Therefore- filming, producing, rendering, and uploading this amount of footage may not be productive or effective. Therefore, we will slowly but surely include the most relevant surgical aspects of the procedure, uncut, to really allow you to experience what it is like from a patient’s perspective. I hope this format does not bore you and that it allows you to fully understand with the experience is like from start to finish. I will try to keep the narrative to a minimum, show before and after results, and make suggestions as to who is the best candidate for a specific type of procedure.
For example, patients who use 1-2 fingers to lift the jowls up to enhance the jawline may be candidates for jowl liposuction, FaceTite, radiofrequency assisted lipolysis, Renuvion, JPlasma, or another skin tightening or reduction procedure like a facelift. Patients who give me duck face or use the word “chipmunk” cheeks in the description of the facial features, may be a candidate for buccal fat pad removal. The woman featured herein is shown before, during, and 2 months after her FaceTite and bichectomy combo procedure. Although the results are premature, impressive changes can typically be seen this soon. We hope you enjoy this new format.
