On July 24, 2019, Allergan recalled sales of textured implants. What does this mean for you? Fortunately, you do not need to have them removed. Dr. Zelken, a Newport Beach board certified plastic surgeon explains what the voluntary recall of textured implants means to you, and what steps you should take moving forward. Spoiler alert: do not be alarmed or scared. BIA-ALCL is exceedingly rare and curable, with incidence rates ranging from 1:3800 to 1:30000 and only 288 cases in the US ever reported. Textured implants have an important role in breast surgery, and Dr. Zelken uses them in 25% of cases, but it is important that patients be educated and make informed decisions. Hopefully this video helps!
